Looking Back || May 2015 In Review

Hello Readers!

So first off, I want to apologize for my lack of posts this last week (and even just lately on a whole) I want to just say that things might be a little slow around here for a while, as finals are in a couple weeks and therefore a lot of my free time is now being used for studying purposes. Then I am free for the summer! Freeeeeeeeeee!

*cough cough* Anyways. On with the post in which I share all the lovely things that went on this last month! Yay!

New Things!

So, as some of you might have noticed, I have something floating around my blog called ‘Spotlight Saturday’ and so far, it’s going very well! I’ve put up 5 posts so far and have about 6 more lined up at the moment with a few more coming in. Now, what is Spotlight Saturday?

Well, It’s a linkup where I interview other bloggers, asking them about their blog, and every Saturday I will post that interview. The purpose behind this is to be able to spread the word about some amazing blogs you may or may not have read before therefore helping you discover new blogs to read and meet other amazing people!

Interested in being interviewed for this? Know someone who will? Send me an email from the contact form on my Contact Page ( <– Click there ) and I will get back to you with the questions and the day your post will be up on the blog!

Book Reviews

How Did My Writing Go?

My writing the last month had been basically non-existent but, I am working on getting going on that once more (Summer, I love you) When summer comes around, I  will be working on a bunch of writing stuff. BUT The question is how my writing went in the month of May, So I will answer that.

Despite not being able to write much I did make a lot of headway on More At Home With Stangers. What was that headway made? Well, I completed Part 1 of MAHWS yesterday and fully outlined Part 2. Consdiering I have the third and final part mostly written I only expect another 30k or so. So, over all. Things went quite well.

How Was Life?

Life these last couple weeks has been absolutely glorious! Busy mind you, but still just SO amazing! For example: These last couple weeks, I’ve been prepping for my 18th Birthday and sort of rebelling my being an adult in what is now two days.

Another thing was: On May 22 to the 24th, I was able to go to such a wonderful Youth Conference known as YC where I not only fullfiled a childhood dream, heard many many speakers and bands, but I got to meet up with a friend of mine from school. A great kickoff for the summer of 2015 I must say!

What’s the Plan for June?

June still holds a lot of busy stuff for me relating to school for the first couple weeks, meaning book reviews and writing posts might be a tad bit scarce for the first couple weeks, but I still have some fun things ahead!

1st thing! (Which is quite important)

Summer Approaches Post <– If you want a say in what appears on my blog this summer you might wanna jump on over to that post and fill in a tiny little survey I set up. I want to know what you lovely people want to see this summer on The Librarian Files and for that to happen you need to tell me! You can do so by clicking the link above.

2nd thing!

Kinda adding to the first thing…I will be editing my novel ‘Lucy’ through the summer in which I will be sharing my editing process with you lovely readers aaaaaand maybe be on the look out for some Beta Readers 😉

3rd thing!

I’m assiting a lovely author named Rachelle Rea with the blog tour for her book. You do not want to miss both posts I’ll be doing which will be here, on the blog, on Wednesday, June 3rd and Monday, June 15th.

So, that’s my May 2015 Review post!

Until Next time!

Camp NaNoWriMo || Character Quotes

Hello Readers!

So, I am in the process of doing the character interviews (Which I completely forgot about) but I thought, why not share this lovely little character quote things. It’s nothing too overly special or anything like that but it’s just pictures of the characters with a couple sentences of things about who they want to be/how they see themselves and stuff like that.

So, here they are. (Would love to know your favourite one 🙂 )

Character Interviews coming later today 😀

Castle of Sighs (by Jennifer Murgia) Cover Reveal Countdown || 7 Days

Day 7 COS

About Castle of Sighs:

Some secrets cannot be kept—in life or in death.

Months have passed since Rune has heard a single whisper from her long-dead mother, the great witch of Bavaria. But the absence of one evil has only made room for another.
After rightfully inheriting her ancestral home, Pyrmont Castle, Rune settles into a quiet life taking care of two orphans left in the wake of the terrible witch hunt that claimed dozens of lives in the nearby village. As the days grow colder, the castle’s secrets beckon and Rune finds herself roaming where no one has set foot in a long time. In the bowels of the fortress is a locked room full of memories that hang like cobwebs—shelves stacked with jars, strange specimens, putrid liquids, and scrolls of spells. Rune is undeniably drawn to what she finds there, and she begins to dabble in the possibilities of magic, hoping to find a cure for the strangeness overwhelming the castle.
As secrets unspool, the delicate thread of Rune’s world is threatened when she realizes the key may lie in the dark forest she once called home and the boy she thought she knew.

Beautiful Books Linkup #3: Let’s Talk Editing

Hello Readers!

So, funny thing…I could have posted my music post this morning as it seems…My tendency of hardly  sleeping was not taken into consideration yesterday when I wrote that post…Oh well. INSTEAD, I have another fun “Beautiful Books’ linkup from Cait over at Paper Fury. Today’s is talking about Editing and A bit more about how ones NaNoWriMo Novel (or just Novel if you didn’t do NaNoWriMo) went and what their plans are for it.

As you all know, My NaNo Novel ‘Aimlessly Wandering’ is not complete (only about halfway done.) but that is not stopping me from doing this awesome linkup!

1. On a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best) how well do you think this book turned out?

Well, as I said before, I havent finished the first draft yet, but so far as to how it turned out, I would say maybe a 5 or 6.
2. Have you ever rewritten or edited one of your books before? If so, what do you do to prepare yourself? If not, what’s your plan?

I actually have 🙂 I just finished final edits on my novel ‘Holding on To Grace’ but there was a fair amount of rewriting and editing for that one….I think I will just prepare myself for this one by stocking up on tea and chocolate…
3. What’s your final wordcount? Do you plan to lengthen or trim your book?

Well, I’m only at 33k at the moment (not done yet) and I’m gonna aim to get my WC to at least 50k but it could be a little longer. But I already know there will be lots of lengthening/trimming later too…
4. What’s are you most proud of? Plot, characters, or pacing?

Characters!!! Okay…and maybe the plot. I am NEVER proud of my pacing at this point in a draft EVER. The pacing is always wayyyyyy to quick.
5. What’s your favourite bit of prose or line from this novel?

Nuff said.
6. What aspect of your book needs the most work?

Pacing 😛 That is definitely gonna need some work. I’m also working on my Showing and not Telling skills because for some reason I seem to lack it…and BAD. Don’t believe me? Ask my critique partner/Beta reader for both HoTG and Thirteen Gigabytes…
7. What aspect of your book is your favourite?

I love the plot and the characters so……Yeah. 😛
8. How are your characters? Well-rounded, or do they still need to be fleshed-out?

I would say they are fairly well-rounded characters…or most of them. Some of them still need a little work. So there might be a little bit of fixing up in that area.
9. If you had to do it over again, what would you change about the whole process?

Ummm…I would outline everything BEFORE NaNoWriMo instead of being lazy and waiting then outlining as I went XD I think that would eliminate the possibility of having to remove some things when I edit this novel XD
10. Did anything happen in your book that completely surprised you? Have any scenes or characters turned out differently to what you planned? Good or bad?

This whole stuff with my character Josh was a huge surprise. Guys, he was only supposed to be in the prologue… That was it. But then so much was connected to him and…gosh. It was surprising. As for scenes and characters, I didn’t have much planned out scene wise when I went into this thing so I guess I could say nothing turned out differently there. I know that Kirsten (my main characters foster mother) turned out a little different than I expected but it’s all good. She’s still awesome.
11. What was the theme and message? Do you think it came across? If not, is there anything you could do to bring it out more?

Heh…about that. There is *supposed* to be one…but let’s just say I miiiiiight need to work on bringing that out a bit more. I mean, obviously that theme/message is still there but I need to make it more noticeable….How I’m gonna do that just yet, I don’t know but I’ll figure it out.
12. Do you like writing with a deadline (like NaNoWriMo) or do you prefer to write-as-it-comes?

Love writing with deadlines! Love love love it! I’m actually planning my own NaNoWriMo type deadlines for the New Year. It shall be wonderful! (I just have WAYYYYYY too many novels that need to be done and more ideas constantly popping in my head)
13. Comparative title time! What published books, movies, or TV shows are like your book? (Ex: Inkheart meets X-Men, etc.)

Ummm. To be honest I have NO idea…let me think on that one for a second…I have seriously got nothing. I think because it’s not finished is probably why. Since I don’t know the entirety or the novel it’s hard to compare…
14. How do you celebrate a finished novel?!

Even though I have actually finished a novel in entirety (all rounds of edits done) I have not ONCE celebrated a finished novel. Usually when I finish I will tell my mum and she will cheer and we get all excited and I do a weird little dance…that mum may or may not join in on…. but thats about it. I DO wanna celebrate in some way…whether its going and buying some cool gadget thing for my computer or a new pen or notebook or even CHOCOLATE, I don’t really care but I need to celebrate somehow…
15. When people are done reading your book, what feeling do you want them to come away with?

I want them to come away with a feeling of Hope and that things, though they may seem hard, can get better and will…That is my goal for most my YA Novels but others may pull something out of it that I never saw…but yeah. That’s the feeling I want people to come away with…

So, that’s the linkup! I suggest heading over to paperfury.com and jumping in on the linkup train! Tons of fun, trust me!

So, I must go get a freakishly HUGE amount of Math Homework done before I go away for the weekend…I’ve got 5 hours before departure and I haven’t even packed yet either!

So, Until Next Time

Adriana Gabrielle

P.S This weekend will have TONS of free time so I’m hoping to have at least one review on either the first Harry Potter book or the Maze Runner 😀

Novel Time#8- The End of NaNoWriMo

Hello Readers!

I’m back again with another post and I am assuming you have guessed from the title that I have completed NaNoWriMo…but that is where you would all be wrong.

I am very much aware that the month still isn’t over. But I am done for this month. Now it is NOT that I have given up, but it is for these reasons that I cannot continue this year:

1. Schoolwork is drowning me! (Send in the lifeguards!)

I only have the mornings (for the rest of this week) to work on schoolwork and then my afternoons are spent where I am out and about taking my sisters to Christmas Choir Performances, Practices for said Performance and Christmas shopping. For these reasons (and I knew about this right from the start of NaNoWriMo) I cannot continue NaNo simply because I will only have a couple minutes for writing and they will be used for……

2. HoTG Having Higher Demand (and same with my Sci-Fi that will soon be on Wattpad)

So this is my second reason for not continuing. I plan to start sending out Query Letters in the New Years for my novel ‘Holding On To Grace’ (or HoTG) and now I am jumping back in (With the help of Nessa) and I’m doing one teensy weensy edit before I officially have it ready to send it. I MUST polish it up as much as possible! (I fear that being a perfectionist in this stage of writing is both a blessing and a curse…)

So, yeah.  That has a higher demand at the moment….along with my Sci-Fi titled ‘Thirteen Gigabytes’ that I am working on (once again with the Amazing Vanessa’s help) editing that to put up on Wattpad. If not all throughout December at least start putting up during Christmas Break and the New Years. More to come on that very very soon. (Meaning I will give you a synopsis and stuff 😉 )

Okay. SO with that said, I am gonna give you a little update on how my novel went this month.

So I am ‘finished’ and just over 33K words (I might still mess around with it a tiny bit during the rest of the week…we will see.) and so far the story is going really really great!

Now, we are kinda gonna shoot back here and I am gonna introduce you to all my characters and all that goodness again. (Just in case you missed interviews and stuff or if you are new here to the blog.) So lets get started.

Title: Aimlessly Wandering

Author: Adriana Gabrielle ( click my name for link to my NaNo page. We can be writing buddies for next year! ;))
Genre: Young Adult
NaNo WC: 33,097 words

The last ten years of Claire’s life have been lonely and love was not top priority. After her parents murder, and twenty foster homes, Claire finally has to decide what to do with her life and who to trust.

Chapter 1

The razor blade slid across my arm leaving a stinging pain behind, as well as a trail of blood.

I counted the scars on my arms. Ten on each one. One for each foster home I’d been to since I was eight. Almost ten years now…

Each scar represented every home I’d stayed at. Every person who I thought loved me, tearing me to shreds every time by giving me away.

Every time.

I guessed it would be about two months before this family didn’t want me anymore either. Which would soon make one more cut, which would then turn into a scar, a permanent reminder.

As soon as I turned eighteen I was getting out of here. Leaving this constant game of tag.

Running to one person, tag you’re it! Oh, We’re bored of Claire now. Next family. Tag you’re it!

This game was getting boring and I was done.

So now that that is done and you now have a basic idea and an excerpt here are a couple character quotes from my main character and then some pics of my main characters!

Claire2 Claire 1Claire4 Claire3

(I would love to hear which quote is your favourite in the comments below!)

Now! I will introduce you to my characters (and link to completed interviews for some of the characters)

First up here is Rowan Scott (on the left) and his foster sister (my FMC) Claire Tyler (Right) and if you click their names you can find their interviews. (There is a bonus ‘Sibling’ interview in Rowan’s)

Okay so on the picture on the left, (Lots of red hair action over here) we have the other members of the Scott family 🙂 (Claire’s foster family)  on the Top of the pic (form Left to Right) we have Sheldon Scott, Claire’s foster father and Kirsten Scott, Claire’s foster mother.

On the Bottom of that picture we have Claire’s other two foster siblings: Ruby (age 3) and George (age 8)

Now for the picture on the right we have Claire’s friends. On the top is Finn. (I actually don’t know his last name….I know I wrote it somewhere but I forgot it…) and the bottom two pictures are (L-R) Lucy Sheridan and Joshua/Josh Sheridan.

So, as you can see this is a basic summary of my novel and a very brief introduction to my characters!

I will be back soon with some more info on both HoTG and Thirteen Gigabytes. So stay tuned for that!

I would love to know about your NaNo Experience. (Either this year or a previous one) What novel did you write? Did you complete NaNo? Still working hard and racing to the finish? I wanna hear from you my lovely readers!

Until Next Time,

Adriana Gabrielle

Novel Time #3- Wanna Hear More About My NaNoWriMo Novel?

Hello Readers!

It is once again, Novel Time!

Today, I am doing a linkup from Further Up and Further In and today, I will be answering this months questions for you, (They do them once a month), Showing you some character quotes, giving you an update on my novel AND I will also be introducing you to Rowan (another character from my NaNo novel who is up for Interviewing!)

First, I am gonna tell you about my progress in the NaNoWriMo Challenge AND show you some character quotes.

Claire 1So as for my word count in this lovely challenge, I’m a bit behind, at 3629 words, but it’s nothing a few Word Wars with my friend Natalie won’t fix! (and an hour or writing to myself once this post is done.) So far I’ve had a lot of potential character quotes that are heart wrenching-ly lovely (yet sad), but I’m only going to share a couple for now and save some more for my next post 😉 Hope you like these other two and that they kinda pique your interest and- and I forgot how I was gonna end this…Okay well you get my point.

Now, I am gonna tell you a little more about my NaNoWriMo Novel!

1. What came first: characters or plot idea? Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Claire was the first element of the story to pop into my head. And to be honest, sometimes I’m a plotter and then other times I’m a plantser 😉 this time I kinda only have a tiny bit to go on so we will see what happens there.

2. Do you have a title and/or a “back-cover-blurb”?

The title is Aimlessly Wandering and I only have my Pitch sentence simply because I don’t know the entirety of the plot so… Here is the little blurb:

The last ten years of Claire’s life have been lonely and love was not top priority. After her parents murder, and twenty foster homes, Claire finally has to decide what to do with her life and who to trust.

3. What word-count are you aiming for when your novel is finished?

I am aiming for at least 50k for this novel. (Though I am slightly worried since my first drafts are always SO short! Like 35-40k short)

4. Sum up your novel in 3 sentences.

Girls parents get murdered.

Is unwanted by anyone.

Decides to change and actually control what happens in her life.

5. Sum up your characters in one word each.

Claire- Broken

Rowan- Mischevious

Lucy- Friendly

Joshua- Protective

Kirsten (Kirstie)- Caring

6. Which character are you most excited to write? Tell us about them!

Well the story is from Claire’s POV but I am really excited to write Rowan and the very snippy/snarky exchanges he and Claire have. It will be absolutely wonderfully fantastic!

7. What about your villain? Who is he, what is his goal?

There is no real, in the flesh villain. The villain really is Claire’s inner conflict with herself and the ‘monster’ of depression that has dragged her down.

8. What is your protagonists’ goal? And what stands in the way?

To actually belong somewhere and be loved but her inner conflict and fear of rejection really stands in the way of that.

9. What inciting incident begins your protagonists’ journey?

There are multiple things leading up to it to be honest. Moving to a new home, being accepted for who she is there, being reunited with an old friend who wants to help her…lots of things.

10. Where is your novel set?

I’m not entirely sure what city/town yet, but it takes place in (Modern Day) Califronia.

11. What are three big scenes in your novel that change the game completely?

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure at the moment since my novel is hardly outlined. I just have a very basic plot to work with.

12. What is the most dynamic relationship your character has? Who else do they come in contact with or become close to during the story?

The most dynamic relationship Claire has is with Lucy who she feels is her only friend. But throughout the story she becomes extremely close with Kirstie her foster mother.

13. How does your protagonist change by the end of the novel?

By the end of the novel, Claire finally decides that she doesn’t want to just go through her life wandering aimlessly but that she wants to live somewhere and belong and she decides to do something about it and actually change.

14. Do you have an ending in mind, or do you plan to see what happens?

I have a basic idea of how far the character comes development wise but that is about it, meaning I plan to see what happens.

So, that’s a bit more about my novel 🙂 I’ll keep you updated as NaNo goes on!

Now, last but not least, I get to introduce you to Rowan Scott then you get to interview him (in the comments below) and when/if I get enough questions I will interview him either next Tuesday or in a couple weeks for the next Novel Time post 🙂

Meet Rowan Scott. A 18 year old A+ student who is the most charming guy you could- Oh for goodness sake, who am I kidding? I can’t lie to you guys!

Okay, so Rowan kinda sucks at school and is barely passing. The only class he’s actually getting great marks in is Science. If he actually tried to study he would be the A+ student I mentioned above, so he has potential. Rowan is the oldest of 3 kids. (His brother George is 10 and his sister Ruby is 5) Rowan is also Claire’s foster brother and can actually be quite a pain. He for some reason loves to make Claire angry but I don’t think he realizes that most days Claire is resisting the urge to break his nose. Rowan actually can be a pleasant guy to be around and a lot of fun but for some reason (guess you’ll have to ask him because I don’t know why) likes to bug Claire….Maybe its some sort of ‘Welcome to my home, initiation time’ thing or something…I don’t really know.

ANYWAYS… Rowan is big into sports and, weirdly enough, loves to paint. (Shhhh. Don’t tell him I told you.) Rowan has also picked up a few things about computers and all things tech from his dad who is all about technology and his expertise in that area is what landed him a job at a technology and video gaming store.

So there ya go, That’s Rowan for you.

Got any questions for my buddy here? What are your thoughts on the character quotes? A favorite of the two? Are YOU doing NaNoWriMo this year? If so give me the link to your blog or NaNoWriMo page! I would LOVE to know more about your novel and cheer you on and stuff!

Until Next time!
