Loving Who God Made You To Be

Hello there lovelies!

Today we have a guest post from my friend Cori. She was one of the first people to volunteer to write a blog post for this new blog post series I wanna do throughout the year and I LOVE what she has to say.

I hope you all receive some encouragement from this lovely gals words of wisdom.


Well, it’s a new year again and our social media is filled with “New year new me” posts and new years resolutions that will last a couple of weeks.  Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t see anything wrong with trying to better yourself, but when its all about me, me, me I think we might just be missing the point. My resolution is to grow closer to Christ and to love who He made me.
        The world tells us that it is all about you. You do you. You only live once. I agree to make the most of your life but when your life revolves around you and you only that isn’t exactly what God has planned. God tells us to live humbly and to always put your neighbor before yourself. He tells us to give a homeless man the clothes off our backs if he doesn’t have any. He tells us to pray for our enemies and love them no matter the harm they’ve caused you.  That may not be very easy, but that is what we are called to. There is a difference between loving who God made you and being a self centered jerk
        Now my life hasn’t been that easy. I was sexually abused, I’ve harmed myself and did for many years, and I even attempted suicide. Growing up I’ve had major self esteem problems.  I would look at myself in the mirror and hate everything about my reflection. I would cry at night because I wasn’t good enough for society or even myself. It wasn’t until recently, actually, that I realized  I wasn’t living how God had planned. It took a mental hospital being waved over my head for me to finally get my act together.  My point is this: God made you who you are for a reason and you are perfectly and wonderfully made. He planned out every inch of you, beautifully, inside of your mother and God, the God of the universe, does not make mistakes. (Psalms 139:13-18)
        Now I pray that in this new year you learn to love yourself for who God made you. Not for what the world wants you to be. Serve your Lord with all your heart soul and mind and love every bit of yourself because the creator of everything there ever was and is to come made you and that is pretty amazing if you think about it.
    Now I still deal with all of these things today. I am not saying that life is gonna be a bundle of joy on a sunny day. Life sucks, there’s no other way to put it, but it is so much easier to have hope and to love who God made you to be then to dwell on things and to try to be this perfect person society makes the standard out to be. You will never be perfect. You will never be “Good enough” , but you know what? That’s why Christ died for us. So that in Him we are good enough and always will be. God doesn’t look at us for all the bad things we have done.  He looks at us as perfect, just as He made us perfectly.

“Lord help me to love who You made me to be. Help me serve you in any way that i can in this new year. I pray that in the new year i grow spiritually and grow to love others more than myself, thank you for all these blessings, i pray that my self esteem will be high this year. In your name I pray , Amen.”

Its 2016 and I’m back! (Maybe to as much as my calendar says I will be because Final and Diploma Exams and Life. :/ )

Did you miss me moriarty

So I already missed not putting up a book review because I didn’t actually have one written yet…so this will be replacing it….and I know its not Monday either. BUT OH WELL. Doesn’t matter. As long as I am here and posting. I’ve lately been extremely discourage with anything relating to my novel writing lately so this year I’m really just gonna focus on only 3 projects as opposed to messing around with all ideas at once. I’ve also been deciding what stories I even find worth keeping BUT in light of that I’m gonna be joining The Beautiful Books Link-Up talking about writing goals for the new year!



What were your writing achievements last year?

Oh my…well I had lots of achievements last year that didn’t happen. If I sat here and listed them all we would be here a while…

Tell us about your top priority writing project for this year?

My top priority project this year is going to be a new novel I started the other night. I’ve had the idea floating around my head for month now but I really just started to develop it a few days ago as a last attempt to see if I will be writing novels anymore. So I’m kinda taking it very slowly and carefully because I’m at a hard point in my life right now with writing and other things so I’m trying not to get frustrated with everything. I’m really sticking to it for a friend and I’m giving writing (novels not blogging) another try.

But with that said, let me tell you about my writing project. I do not have much at all but I have a tiny couple sentence description summarizing the characters, a collage of the character shipping cuteness, and a Pinterest board. So its a start.

Screaming Silence

Isn’t this collage to cute?! I’m in love with my characters of this story, ok? Ok now character summary thing:

The story of a quiet girl screaming in a void known as an ignorant, careless family and she just wants to be heard…and her screaming in silence is heard by the most unlikeliest of people; a tattooed, piercing covered pet store employee who is searching for someone to love the real him. The one hiding beneath the tattoos and piercings.


as I said, not much about the plot in that little description thing, but its a start! 😛 But this will be the project (out of three) that will probably have most of my attention this year.



List 5 areas you’d like to work the hardest to improve this year.

  1. Work on my editing. I’m not the best at editing so I really need to improve on that this year as one of my novels I’m gonna be focusing on edits this year
  2. Describing characters. I cannot describe characters very well and its frustrating cause I have a perfect image in my head and I want to tell people what these characters look like but then it comes across as tell-y so…
  3. Work on showing things in my writing as opposed to telling them. Over this last year and a bit I’ve improved a little but It still needs some work.

I can’t really think of anything else so I’m only listing three…but oh well!

Are you participating in any writing challenges?

I don’t think so. Right now I don’t need any challenges I just need to learn to love writing again and re-learn that its ok for things not to be perfect and messy. I feel writing challenges will add a pressure I don’t need.

What’s your critique partner/beta reader situation like and do you have plans to expand this year?

Its this whole big dramatic deal that I don’t really feel like discussing….but lets just say finding a beta reader who will actually stick around and help me out is EXTREMELY difficult and frustrating.

Do you have plans to read any writer-related books this year? Or are there specific books you want to read for research?

None I can think of off the top of my head, but some may very well come up.

Pick one character you want to get to know better, and how are you going to achieve this?

ALL OF THEM! How I’m gonna do that, I don’t know yet…. Any suggestions.

Do you plan to edit or query, and what’s your plan of attack?

I’m taking a break from querying my novel this year. I really just need to read it over again and decide if its worth it to keep burying or not. As for editing, I have my novel Aimlessly Wandering that I’m finishing edits/re-writes of the ending on so I need to finish that. My plan of attack is to try and work on it without crying cause its a mess LOL probably consume lotsa chocolate and get fat too.

Toni Morrison once said, “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” What are the books that you want to see more of, and what “holes” do you think need filling in the literary world?

I honestly have no idea…. Can you tell I have no idea what I’m doing anymore?


What do you hope to have achieved by the end of 2016?

The goal I hope to achieve is NOT quitting writing and getting at least 40k in my new novel. Other than that I got nothing. Keeping it small this year.

2014 End Of The Year Book Survey

Hello Readers!

So, I have decided, after seeing Cait Drews version of the link-up on her blog, to jump on board on this 2014 End of the Year Book Survey in which I will be answering many delicious questions about books/book blogs and the like! So I shall get started right away, because it is most definitely going to be a very very full post!


2014 Reading Stats:

Number of books I read: Wellllllll. Lets just say I failed my Goodreads Challenge…This year was not a reading year for me >.< School always gets in the way. I only read 36 books this year. *sniff sniff* Okay, well I have read more, but I just got lazy with adding them to my read shelf…but I still don’t think I reached my 50 book goal anyways :/ Oh well! Always next year and I still loved the books I got to read!


Number of Re-Reads: I read The Follower by C.F Barrows 5 times this year people! And I only bought the book in February of this year. I would well be past my Goodreads challenge if Goodreads counted Re-Reads…


Genre I Read The Most From: Okay, Okay so I just went through my Goodreads to figure this all out and it seems that the Fantasy Genre won out with me reading 10 from that genre. Just cause I wrote up this list I’ll tell you how many books from each genre I read.

1. Best Book You Read In 2014? (If have to cheat break it down by genre if you want)

Oh my goodness. Ummmmmmm… I would probably have to say ‘How I Kissed Dating Goodbye’ by Joshua Harris. (Non-Fiction) Probably the best book I read this year 🙂

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I really didn’t like it but was so sure I would…
3. Most Surprising (in a good or bad way) Book You Read in 2014?

Rising by Holly Kelly. Really, the only reason I got it was because it was free. I wasn’t expecting much and oh my goodness, I was surprised!! It’s amazing!
4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (and they did) In 2014?

It’s Complicated by Laura L. Smith. I always tell people to read her books 😛

5. Best Series You Started In 2014? Best Sequel of 2014? Best Series Ender of 2014?
6. Favourite New Author You Discovered in 2014?

Holly Kelly is by far my favourite author I discovered this year 🙂 Her books are amazing! So happy I discovered her books! 😀
7. Best Book From A Genre You Don’t Typically Read/Was Out Of Your Comfort Zone?

Once again, Non-Fiction is making an appearance here, but the book ‘Fighter: Five keys to Conquering Fear and Reaching Your Dreams’ by rapper Christopher Greenwood of Manafest was probably the best book I read that I don’t typically read. I don’t read much Non-Fiction and this one was absolutely perfect.

8. Most Action-Packed/Thrilling/Unputdownable Book Of The Year?

Descending by Holly Kelly was definitely unputdownable for me! I even read it twice! (Lots of re-reads this year you guys. Like seriously!) It is such an amazing book and definitely had trouble putting it down!
9. Book You Read In 2014 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?

Ummmm let me see…Probably either Seeing Through Stones by Rajdeep Paulus OR Swept To Sea by Heather Manning. I really can’t decide. I will probably re-read both…
10. Favourite Cover of A Book You Read In 2014?

Ohhhh. I have so many favourite covers! But I LOVED the cover for Descending by Holly Kelly! Such a beautiful cover!



11. Most Memorable Character of 2014?

AHHHH! Why torture me with such a horrid question???? I really can’t pick…..Too many options *sobs* I really can’t pick between my babies and I shall not pick!
12. Most Beautifully Written Book Read in 2014?

Seeing Through Stones by Rajdeep Paulus is most definitely my favourite book published this year and probably the most beautifully written for sure! Such an amazing story.

13. Most Thoughts- Provoking/Life-Changing Book of 2014?

To Save A Life by Jim and Rachel Britts without a doubt. This was definitely the most Life Changing book I have ever read! ( Fighter by Christopher Greenwood as a close second) So amazing.

14. Book You Can’t Believe You Waited UNTIL 2014 To Read?

Ummm…The Maze Runner! Definitely that. I had actually heard of it a couple years ago, but I only just read the entire series and I wish I read it a lot sooner.
15. Favourite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2014?

Ummmm. I really don’t know! I’ve had so many….let me think on this for a moment….

Oh I know! I find that Minho comes to me speaking such amazing words of encouragement that really helps me get through life and that would definitely be this lovely quote: “Be careful. Don’t Die.’

The longest book I read was Becoming The Chateran that was 499 pages (according to Goodreads anyways. I don’t remember it being that long…)

Oh boy…I really don’t know. I wasn’t really overly shocked by any books per say….

What??? More torture? Really?! Not fair… I have so many ships! I don’t even know if I cna really pick my OTP of the year….I’m stuck between three of my favourite ships!

TBR Pile Is Getting Bigger!!

Hello Readers!


So, to start off. I want to say ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ to all my U.S readers! (I know there are some of you here 😛 Heehee) So, as the holidays are approaching I am (despite all my tests and such) finding more free time to read! It has made me quite excited because I can catch up on all these wonderful books I am dying to read! (and get working on some reviews)

For today’s post I am going to tell you what books I’m gonna be reading and all that sort of amazingness 😀 So lets get started!


1. The Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling

So I went to the library and FINALLY picked these up. (Got the first three books) I’m so happy!!! The reason I haven’t read them sooner was because I wasn’t really allowed to but….I’m almost an adult now as my mum pointed out at the library last night…So I’m taking advantage of this whole ‘Growing Up’ thing…I am excited because I loved the movies and I have heard from EVERYONE who read the books tell me that the books are even better than the movies. (And the movies were great)



2. The Space Trilogy by C.S Lewis

My Gram gave me this series a while ago and I am DYING to read these! These will also be read over the holidays!

3. The Maze Runner by James Dashner

So, I won this book a while ago on a contest held over on a fellow GTWer friends blog. (Stori Tori’s Blog.) and haven’t gotten the chance to read it yet! But I REFUSE to watch the movie until I read the book! Must. Read. Book. First.


4. The Mandie Book by Lois Gladys Leppard

I read these books as a kid (I own them all) so for my Kiddos Review’s I will be doing soon I will be reviewing my favourite books of this series. 😀



5. Swimming Through Clouds by Rajdeep Paulus

I NEED to read this again. I’m not sure what reminded me of it the other day but something did and I wanna read it again….So I shall.



So these are the books I am planning to read over the Christmas Holidays and into the New Years! I didn’t put C.F Barrows books in here again just cause it can be assumed I WILL make time to read both The Follower and The Merchant’s Son again…. *wondering if this obsession is good for my health*
