Loving Who God Made You To Be

Hello there lovelies!

Today we have a guest post from my friend Cori. She was one of the first people to volunteer to write a blog post for this new blog post series I wanna do throughout the year and I LOVE what she has to say.

I hope you all receive some encouragement from this lovely gals words of wisdom.

Well, it’s a new year again and our social media is filled with “New year new me” posts and new years resolutions that will last a couple of weeks.  Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t see anything wrong with trying to better yourself, but when its all about me, me, me I think we might just be missing the point. My resolution is to grow closer to Christ and to love who He made me.
        The world tells us that it is all about you. You do you. You only live once. I agree to make the most of your life but when your life revolves around you and you only that isn’t exactly what God has planned. God tells us to live humbly and to always put your neighbor before yourself. He tells us to give a homeless man the clothes off our backs if he doesn’t have any. He tells us to pray for our enemies and love them no matter the harm they’ve caused you.  That may not be very easy, but that is what we are called to. There is a difference between loving who God made you and being a self centered jerk
        Now my life hasn’t been that easy. I was sexually abused, I’ve harmed myself and did for many years, and I even attempted suicide. Growing up I’ve had major self esteem problems.  I would look at myself in the mirror and hate everything about my reflection. I would cry at night because I wasn’t good enough for society or even myself. It wasn’t until recently, actually, that I realized  I wasn’t living how God had planned. It took a mental hospital being waved over my head for me to finally get my act together.  My point is this: God made you who you are for a reason and you are perfectly and wonderfully made. He planned out every inch of you, beautifully, inside of your mother and God, the God of the universe, does not make mistakes. (Psalms 139:13-18)
        Now I pray that in this new year you learn to love yourself for who God made you. Not for what the world wants you to be. Serve your Lord with all your heart soul and mind and love every bit of yourself because the creator of everything there ever was and is to come made you and that is pretty amazing if you think about it.
    Now I still deal with all of these things today. I am not saying that life is gonna be a bundle of joy on a sunny day. Life sucks, there’s no other way to put it, but it is so much easier to have hope and to love who God made you to be then to dwell on things and to try to be this perfect person society makes the standard out to be. You will never be perfect. You will never be “Good enough” , but you know what? That’s why Christ died for us. So that in Him we are good enough and always will be. God doesn’t look at us for all the bad things we have done.  He looks at us as perfect, just as He made us perfectly.

“Lord help me to love who You made me to be. Help me serve you in any way that i can in this new year. I pray that in the new year i grow spiritually and grow to love others more than myself, thank you for all these blessings, i pray that my self esteem will be high this year. In your name I pray , Amen.”

Did you miss me moriarty

So I already missed not putting up a book review because I didn’t actually have one written yet…so this will be replacing it….and I know its not Monday either. BUT OH WELL. Doesn’t matter. As long as I am here and posting. I’ve lately been extremely discourage with anything relating to my novel writing lately so this year I’m really just gonna focus on only 3 projects as opposed to messing around with all ideas at once. I’ve also been deciding what stories I even find worth keeping BUT in light of that I’m gonna be joining The Beautiful Books Link-Up talking about writing goals for the new year!

What were your writing achievements last year?

Oh my…well I had lots of achievements last year that didn’t happen. If I sat here and listed them all we would be here a while…

 
Tell us about your top priority writing project for this year?

My top priority project this year is going to be a new novel I started the other night. I’ve had the idea floating around my head for month now but I really just started to develop it a few days ago as a last attempt to see if I will be writing novels anymore. So I’m kinda taking it very slowly and carefully because I’m at a hard point in my life right now with writing and other things so I’m trying not to get frustrated with everything. I’m really sticking to it for a friend and I’m giving writing (novels not blogging) another try.

But with that said, let me tell you about my writing project. I do not have much at all but I have a tiny couple sentence description summarizing the characters, a collage of the character shipping cuteness, and a Pinterest board. So its a start.

Screaming Silence

Isn’t this collage to cute?! I’m in love with my characters of this story, ok? Ok now character summary thing:

The story of a quiet girl screaming in a void known as an ignorant, careless family and she just wants to be heard…and her screaming in silence is heard by the most unlikeliest of people; a tattooed, piercing covered pet store employee who is searching for someone to love the real him. The one hiding beneath the tattoos and piercings.

 

as I said, not much about the plot in that little description thing, but its a start! 😛 But this will be the project (out of three) that will probably have most of my attention this year.

 

 

List 5 areas you’d like to work the hardest to improve this year.

  1. Work on my editing. I’m not the best at editing so I really need to improve on that this year as one of my novels I’m gonna be focusing on edits this year
  2. Describing characters. I cannot describe characters very well and its frustrating cause I have a perfect image in my head and I want to tell people what these characters look like but then it comes across as tell-y so…
  3. Work on showing things in my writing as opposed to telling them. Over this last year and a bit I’ve improved a little but It still needs some work.

I can’t really think of anything else so I’m only listing three…but oh well!

 
Are you participating in any writing challenges?

I don’t think so. Right now I don’t need any challenges I just need to learn to love writing again and re-learn that its ok for things not to be perfect and messy. I feel writing challenges will add a pressure I don’t need.

 
What’s your critique partner/beta reader situation like and do you have plans to expand this year?

Its this whole big dramatic deal that I don’t really feel like discussing….but lets just say finding a beta reader who will actually stick around and help me out is EXTREMELY difficult and frustrating.

 
Do you have plans to read any writer-related books this year? Or are there specific books you want to read for research?

None I can think of off the top of my head, but some may very well come up.

 
Pick one character you want to get to know better, and how are you going to achieve this?

ALL OF THEM! How I’m gonna do that, I don’t know yet…. Any suggestions.

 
Do you plan to edit or query, and what’s your plan of attack?

I’m taking a break from querying my novel this year. I really just need to read it over again and decide if its worth it to keep burying or not. As for editing, I have my novel Aimlessly Wandering that I’m finishing edits/re-writes of the ending on so I need to finish that. My plan of attack is to try and work on it without crying cause its a mess LOL probably consume lotsa chocolate and get fat too.

 
Toni Morrison once said, “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” What are the books that you want to see more of, and what “holes” do you think need filling in the literary world?

I honestly have no idea…. Can you tell I have no idea what I’m doing anymore?

The goal I hope to achieve is NOT quitting writing and getting at least 40k in my new novel. Other than that I got nothing. Keeping it small this year.

Beautiful People- July Edition|| In Which I Introduce You To Sleeping Beauty

Hello Readers!

Sorry for disappearing! I was going to put up a post on Friday night…and wordpress didn’t work… then I tried on Saturday and it still didn’t work! But, now it’s Monday, AND WORDPRESS WORKS! Yay!

So, I’m kicking things off with posts this month. (Finally got the weekend off school and work to set up fun tag posts and such but then WordPress was being a bum…)

Alright! So for this tag, I’m doing the July edition of The Beautiful People Link-Up hosted by Sky and Cait (links on the link up image) and today, I figured it was about time to introduce you to Sleeping Beauty…or MY Sleeping Beauty.

I’m writing a YA CONTEMPORARY (yes, I said Contemporary) Sleeping Beauty Retelling for the Rooglewood Press’s Five Magic Spindles Contest and I’m pretty excited for it! So, with that said time to introduce you to my main character, Aster Young. So, it’s time to interview her!

 

Aster

Me: So, Aster, what’s your favourite ice cream flavour?

Aster: Really? That’s the first question you ask? Here I thought this was going to be harder

Me: Just answer the question.

Aster: Fine then. Well…I really like this birthday cake frozen yogurt. That’s usually what I get over other kinda of Ice Cream.

Of course you would like the Birthday Cake frozen yogurt. For you lovely readers, you should know that Aster is kinda obssesed with cake.

I’m sorry, is there a problem with that?

No. No problem at all. So, you’re getting ready for a night out. Where are you going?

I don’t really go anywhere…

Why not?

You know this already!

But my readers don’t. 

*SIGH* I don’t go anywhere for…reasons.

Really?

Whaaaat? I answered the question!

Fine. But pretend you were going out for the night. Somewhere fun. Where would you go?

To the movies or something I guess.

Would you go with someone?

I would probably go with Daddy. Mom isn’t really into movies…Daddy and I call her a grumpy old lady for it…even though Daddy is older than Mom by five years.

Right. Okay. *looks down at list with questions* Moving on to talking about shoes…

Shoes?

As a girl, I know I love shoes so you must as well…right?

Uh, not right.

Well too bad. Do you often wear dress shoes, gym shoes, or none at all?

If I could walk around barefoot I would…but I can’t. So I ususally go with Flip-Flops. Next best thing to cake.

 

Flip-Flops and Cake…Interesting. What shoes do you consider comfortable? What shoes do you consider agonizing to wear?

High heels are definitely agonizing to wear…and due to my-uh…Condition-

*interrupts* If you keep saying ‘condition’ I’m going to make you explain…

*Rolls eyes* Fine. Whatever. Anyways. Due to it, I don’t really wear heels just to avoid any mishaps. I consider Flip-Flops really comfortable.

Okay. So, we’ve established. Flip-Flops are your thing. Moving on. Do you have any birthmark or scars? Where are they and how did you get them?

I have a long scar underneath my eye from a tumble down a large set of cement stairs at a local park. Other than that no other scars or birthmarks.

Wait, what? I did not know that

Really? Hmm. Guess it doesn’t matter much then.

Actually it does! *scribbles down notes* What kind of music do you like to listen to, Aster? Does it change depending on your mood or is it always consistent?

I usually just listen to some Indie or Folk music…nothing that gets me too pumped up. Cause that would cause problems.

Why would it cause problems, Aster?

*glares at me* I don’t wanna say.

Too bad. You tell them, or I do.

*sighs in frustration* The reason I go with calmer music, don’t go out much and avoid high heels is because I have Narcolepsy. *turns and glares at me* Happy now?

Yes, quite. So, Aster. Do you play an instrument?

Nope…I mean I used to ‘play’ piano but that failed. I joined choir for a while, which I loved…but I sadly couldn’t really preform anymore. I plan to join again some day…

What kinds of book do you like to read?

I…don’t really read all that much. It will take me so long to finish a book so I don’t even try anymore.

That makes sense. So, how do you spend your summers?

My summers usually consist of many visits from my cousin, Gum…and my trying to leave the house as much as possible without my parents worrying I’m gonna fall asleep and die from it…
Riiiiight. They’re just worried for you, is all.

So?

Nevermind…Moving on. It’s Saturday at noon. What are you doing? 

Most of the time I’m just sitting around. Depends when I’ve ‘woke up’ from what I wish I could call a normal nights sleep.

So, today I am switching it up and I’m going to share a little bit about my FMC’s parents from my novel Holding On To Grace (In which I will be finalizing for Querying in the late summer or early fall.)

So, this is my baby, Billie Crane. She is 17 years old, is kinda my favourite, and super adorable.

Now, I’m sure I’ve told you about Billie in the past, but, instead of giving you all her background story first, I will just have her answer the questions for you and the pieces should fit together. So let’s do this 🙂

 

So, Billie. Do you know both your biological parents?

Billie: *nods* Yes…Of course I do.

 

Why aren’t you with them now?

Well, I havent seen Mum for a long time now…But I left home. That’s why I havent seen Dad.

 

Why havent you seen your mother? Did your parents separate?

No…Mum died when I was ten.
Right…I’m sorry about that…

 

What? I am! *cough* So, have you inherited any physical resemblances from your parents?

People always tell me I look like my Mum but I’m not sure I do…I think I look like Dad…But I think people miss Mum. Thats why they say I look like her…

 

I suppose that could be the case…So who are you staying with now? Have they become parental figures to you at all? Or are they just means of a shelter?

I’m staying with my Aunt and Uncle…They are extremely supportive and help me a lot with…stuff.

 

Right. So, What’s are your Aunt and Uncles dress style? I mean you are living with them so…

Wait, What?

 

I don’t know. It’s one of the questions I’m supposed to ask…

Oh…Well I don’t really know. All I know is that they dress really nicely. havent payed much attention to actual details. I know my aunt wears a lot of Pink and black clothing…You know like, black yoga pants with a pink shirt or something…

 

Would you say you share any personality traits with your Aunt and Uncle?

No. My Aunt and Uncle are very social people who always take a leading role with stuff…I’m not like that.

 

You can be…You don’t think so but you can be like that.

Do you get on with your Aunt and Uncle or no?

I get along with my Aunt better than my Uncle. But I get along with both pretty well I guess..

 

Could you describe both your Aunt and Uncle in one word?

My Aunt I would say is ‘Friendly’

And my Uncle is…well an ‘Entertainer’
Now, I know your Aunt and Uncle have helped you a ton, but how have your Aunt and Uncle helped you most in your life, Billie?

Just by taking me in. They didn’t know me very well but they took me in anyways.
What was your biggest fight with your Aunt and Uncle?

When my Aunt registered me in school again I put up a big fight…

Okay then…Tracing back your family tree, what nationalities are in your ancestry?

I’m not sure…All I know is Dad was from the states somewhere and my Grandma was british…

I’m not really sure…I have a lot of good memories with them…

Beautiful People: April Edition || Siblings (MAHWS Characters)

So today, like the last Beautiful People Link-Up I did, I am going to be doing a mix of a couple of the characters from my camp NaNo Novel. BUT that is four characters so I cam going to go about picking the relationships between two girls therefore I’ll be answering the same questions twice for different characters. (That probably just sounded confusing but it will make sense in a minute, I swear.)

So, non of these girls are biological sisters, but they are foster sisters, so that counts!

 

Paisley Moore and Mack Oliver

1. What is the first memory they have of each other? Well they’ve known each other for about a month so their first memory of each other was when Gabrielle introduced Mack to Paisley when Paisley first arrived at their home.
2. Describe their relationship in 3 words. Fun filled trouble
3. What kind of things do they like to do together? They will go to the nearest mall or shopping center and try out clothes and such OR will just go explore…and by explore, it usually ends up one of both of them getting into some sort of trouble 😛
4. What was their biggest fight? Their biggest fight was when they first met really. Mack was snooping around in Paisley’s things, found her journal (which is basically her diary in poetry form) and read through a lot of it. Paisley got extremely upset with her and Mack kind of didn’t help by engaging in the fight where she could have just walked away.
5. How far would they go to save each other? Paisley really looks up to Mack (and the other two girls) as a big sister and I know she would go all out to save her and same with Mack to Paisley.
6. What are their pet peeves about each other? Mack hates that some days Paisley will be Paisley and ignore everyone for like a day or two while she writes away and that kind of annoys Mack for some reason.

Paisley doesn’t like that Mack can sometimes be very loud and annoying.

(How these two get along I don’t understand sometimes)
7. What are their favorite things about each other? Paisley thinks that Mack is the coolest person ever and likes that she know a lot about fashion and always looks for a new adventure to go on. (Mack is a bad influence at points and so that gets very interesting)

Mack likes that Paisley is willing to tag along and is a genius mastermind when it comes to coming up with pranks.
8. What traits do they share? Mannerisms, clothing, quirks, looks, etc? They don’t actually share any traits weirdly enough….Or at least none that I, the author, have noticed so far 😛
9. Who has the strongest personality? You know, I’m not too sure but I think it would have to be Paisley. But they are both very strong personalities. (Their personalities are opposite mostly but still)
10. How does their relationship change throughout your story? Well they’re really growing close now, but it first starts out where Mack sees Paisley as an annoying tag along who follows her around and Paisley well….She followed Mack around. She thought she was super cool so…

 

 

Tarryn McPherson and Maiya Sterling

1. What is the first memory they have of each other? Once again, the whole coming to the same foster home thing. They both hardly spoke to each other but seemed to actually accept each other so ya know…that’s all good.

2. Describe their relationship in 3 words. Closely distant (yeah so that was 2 words but that’s all I got)
3. What kind of things do they like to do together? They will often times just sit around and just talk to each other a little and watch a movie together or something. Indoor/Quiet activities usually. Though they do sometimes have jam sessions as Maiya plays guitar and Tarryn plays drums.
4. What was their biggest fight? They don’t really get close enough to have big huge fights or anything. Like the both of them try to stay as distant from other people as possible so its an interesting sibling/friend type relationship that way. I think they’ve had many squabbles cause Tarryn has taken some of Maiya’s clothes and stuff..
5. How far would they go to save each other? Both would go all out to save each other and do whatever they could
6. What are their pet peeves about each other? Maiya hates that Tarryn will blast loud music in the house and she kinda hates how sassy Tarryn can be at points.

Tarryn hates that Maiya complains about things mentioned in the above sentence^
7. What are their favorite things about each other? Tarryn’s favorite thing about Maiya is that she will always listen if she really needs to talk about something. (Though she keeps a lot of stuff to herself but everyone has to talk to someone at some point, right?)

Maiya’s favourite thing about Tarryn is that she always makes her smile just with the things she says or does. (Tarryn does some weird things sometimes)

Once again like I said they are closely distant, okay? It’s very very weird. Some days they are super close and others they are extremely distant.
8. What traits do they share? Mannerisms, clothing, quirks, looks, etc? A couple people have mistaken then for being actual sisters before in the novel. They look very much alike except for that Maiya has blonde hair and is 5’2″ in height and Tarryn has brown hair and is 4’10” in height.
9. Who has the strongest personality? Definitely Tarryn.
10. How does their relationship change throughout your story? By the end of the story the closely distant relationship they have goes from closely distant to being extremely close and inseparable. What exactly changes I’m not entirely sure yet but…yeah 😛

How Did My Writing Go?

I sadly didn’t get as much writing and editing done as I had hoped. What little time I had this past month was used for researching for my upcoming CampNaNo novel, writing book reviews and also Uploading chapters of my WIP Aimlessly Wandering to Wattpad. ( It’s still in the first draft at the moment but I’ve put it up anyways 😛 ) So far my National Novel Writing Year plan has kinda gone down the drain a bit but not all hope is lost! I’m coming up on the end of Aimlessly Wandering and have completed two short stories. That’s almost 3 projects done! and if everything goes according to plan ‘More At Home With Strangers’ will be completed by the end of April and I will use the next couple months (Up until the next Camp NaNo to finish up a few of these half finished drafts that kinda got abandoned in the process of new ideas revealing themselves)

 

How Was Life?

Life was crazy busy for me this month with things like, Volunteering at my churches 75th Anniversary dinner (In which I was waitressing), going to Youth Group, being sick constantly, lots of homework, celebrating birthdays and trying to keep up with my blogging. (You have to admit I’ve been doing pretty good…*nervous chuckle* Right?)

 

What’s the Plan for April? (On the blog)

The plan for April is to use Spring Break to my advantage and write like a crazy chicken (<–This lady at my church says that and I’m picking it up….Oopsie) and try and get a lot of my novel done….Working around road trips to visit family and meeting up with my besties for coffee and such. What does that mean for the blog? Well there may be a shortage of book reviews but there will be Character Interviews, Novel Updates, Quotes and Scenes from my NaNo novel and fun stuff like inspiration/music for my novel! Fun stuff, let me tell you 😀  (I do promise to do my best to keep on top of Top Ten Tuesday Posts and book reviews too 😀 )

Oh! And did I mention its my blog birthday next month? I’m still not sure what I’m going to be doing for that but I better figure that out fast considering April 24th is gonna sneak up on me really quickly…

Beautiful People: March Edition ||More At Home With Strangers Characters (Camp NaNo Novel)

Hello Readers!

At long last I have finally written a post telling you about my Camp NaNoNovel that I will be writing next month! (In which I will be doing the Beautiful People Linkup!)

Now, I am going to introduce you to the characters a little bit and also just tell you a bit about the basic plot of the story. (Cause thats really all I know at the moment.)

Synopsis:

Four teenagers, Mackenzie, Paisley, Tarryn and Maiya can’t stand each other upon meeting which makes having to live together hard. But they don’t have much choice considering the foster system is a hard, complicated issue. None have any valid excuse to leave, except their hatred for each other, so in the same home they remain. With the help of Gabrielle Harrow, the girl’s foster mother, they fight their own demons and face things they would much rather forget….and soon find that not only friendship starts to bring them together but that they are more at home with these strangers than anyone else.

 

I’ve kept this story pretty under wraps until now because this story is very special to me. So many things people I know or things I’ve seen or gone through are in this story making it very special to me. But that’s what makes a good novel right? Putting your experiences and such in a novel, right?

I’m super excited to get started on this novel and have had many ideas brewing and I’ve been writing down any little scene idea I get, making sure I’m ready to tackle this novel during Camp NaNo. Lots of figuring out of the characters to be done for that.

With that said, I’m gonna do (as an introduction to the four main characters) the March Edition of the Beautiful People Link-up hosted by Cait @ Paperfury and Sky @Further Up and Further In!

 

 

Tarryn

Tarryn McPherson (Age 17 years)

What is their secret desire?

Tarryn comes across as a very distant person and (wether she wants to admit it or not) has a very careless and self-destructive personality at points. (She’s a very broken girl 😦 ) She’s also very sassy and snippy and pushes people away in a way to defend herself which makes getting to know her rather undesirable and a lot of work. But deep down her secret desire is to belong somewhere and to someone. It’s all she wants…To belong.

 

What is the best and brightest moment they experience during the story?

The acceptance that she receives from Gabrielle and David Harrow (her foster parents) and the fact that they truly care about her.

 

What are the emotional places your characters are afraid to go to?

To face the fact that the condition she is in could potentially kill her (she is anorexic and suicidal) and to face her ‘demons’ and move on to the path of healing is a struggle she isn’t really sure she  wants to face.

 

Is there a place/city/room where they will never go? Why?

She will never go back to where she used to live before she was in the foster system because her parents were killed and she was separated from her brother. That town holds lots of bittersweet memories for her.

Another place she refuses to go is once again to another city to where she was adopted into a home (before the story starts) but things became bad and she suffered abuse from a family member. She refuses to go anywhere near that home again. (Not like I blame her though…)

Though, being in five foster homes I think Tarryn would like to avoid all those homes if she can.

 

If they were permanently leaving town, what would they easily throw out? What would they refuse to part with? (Why?)

She would easily throw out pretty much anything. The only things she would keep are these things that she keeps in a backpack that she takes pretty much anywhere not wanting to part with it. Those items are: A few family pictures from when she was a child, one of her old teddy bears, her fathers old sweater, her moms favourite book and a couple notebooks and journals.

She keeps all these things because they are all mean something to her and help keep the people she’s lost close to her.

 

What do they want (consciously and tangibly)?

A family, friends, and to be accepted.

 

On the other hand: what do they need (on the emotional, subconscious level)?

She needs both medical and mental help as she has suffered much trauma. Tarryn may be too stubborn to ask for help or admit that she wants it but she needs help.

 

If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?

Tarryn hates how she looks with a passion. If she could change one thing about herself it would be that she was ‘prettier’

 

What is the most humiliating event of their life?

Probably the time she met her boyfriend. Suffered much humiliation that day…by falling down a set of stairs in front of a lot of people…Oh then she went and accidentally threw a partially empty cardboard box of clothing at said future boyfriend. (Well future boyfriend at that point)

 

What things do they turn to when they need a bit of hope?

Probably listening to music is one of the big things she turns to. Eventually, once she meets her and tolerates at least somewhat, she turns to Maiya who is willing to listen to what Tarryn has to say and help her feel better in any way she can.

 

 

Maiya

 Maiya Sterling (Age 16 years)

What is their secret desire?

Maiya was born with a major lung deformity and the looming possibility of lung cancer revealing itself. Her secret desire is to one day be healthy and normal and be able to run around and have fun, not having to worry about her medical condition. (She has a lung deformity)

 

What is the best and brightest moment they experience during the story?

You know, Maiya experiences a couple bright moments during the novel (Though has a heavy load that comes with restrictions that is her medical condition) but I think one of her brightest moments, as weird as it might sound, was getting a lung transplant which really improved her condition. Yes, it still has its setbacks and limits but it’s something she’d been waiting for since she was a child.

 

What are the emotional places your characters are afraid to go to?

Probably anything linked with the pain she suffered from the hands of her mother. She doesn’t like to think about it and will avoid it at any cost.

 

Is there a place/city/room where they will never go? Why?

She wants nothing to do with prison. No, she has never been but she has turned down visiting her mother on many many occasions.

 

If they were permanently leaving town, what would they easily throw out? What would they refuse to part with? (Why?)

She would definitely keep the things given to her by her previous foster mother (who suddenly passed away) which were things like a couple books (one of them being a cookbook of family recipes), some jewelry and a sketchbook of her foster mothers drawings. Maiya loved her foster mother so she refused to let go of some of the more important things she had given her.

 

What do they want (consciously and tangibly)?

To be happy with another foster family, like her previous foster mother (who was a single woman), and to be healthy.

 

On the other hand: what do they need (on the emotional, subconscious level)?

She needs something to help her medical condition as her lungs are failing her more and more every day.

 

If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?

That she didn’t have a lung deformity.

 

What is the most humiliating event of their life?

She once had an issue where she was in school and found herself struggling to breathe and she was rather humiliated by it. (She’s humiliated by her medical condition.)

 

What things do they turn to when they need a bit of hope? 

She turns to the memories of how happy she was with her foster mother and later, she turns to her new foster sisters as well.

 

 

Mack

 Mackenzie Oliver (Age 17 years)

What is their secret desire?

Mackenzie, or Mack as she likes to be called, has been quite the uncontrollable rebel ever since her father walked out on her and her mother. She never forgave her dad for doing so and blames him and her mom (who kicked her out) for her tendency to look to other men for love and her partying habits. Her secret desire is simply to have a daddy again.

 

What is the best and brightest moment they experience during the story?

Her brightest moment is fulfilling her secret desire. She comes to connect with David (her foster father) and she eventually has a father again that she can trust never to leave.

 

What are the emotional places your characters are afraid to go to?

She more has the issue of not wanting to forgive her father for leaving. She doesn’t want to forgive him thinking that by doing so she’s accepting that her father leaving them for another woman was an okay thing to do.

 

Is there a place/city/room where they will never go? Why?

Not that I can think of, no.

 

If they were permanently leaving town, what would they easily throw out? What would they refuse to part with? (Why?)

She would want nothing to do with her family so she would leave with only some clothes and thats about it.

 

What do they want (consciously and tangibly)?

She wants to get back at her father for ‘ruining her life’ (this is one angry girl, you guys) …..

… Mack also wants to be a fashion designer… She wants both things equally.

 

On the other hand: what do they need (on the emotional, subconscious level)?

She needs a father figure to help her out and set her on the right path again.

 

If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?

It’s not really anything about herself but more her family. If she could fix her family and make her dad never leave she would. That is what she would change. (Which would technically change who she became)

 

What is the most humiliating event of their life?

Might seem a little repetitive (but like I said she is a very angry girl) but she found her dad leaving not only angering but also humiliating.

 

What things do they turn to when they need a bit of hope? 

I probably should know what it is she turns to but I currently don’t at the moment. (I am having a very hard time figuring this character out just because she is naturally stubborn…)

 

 

Paisley

 Paisley Moore (Age 13 years)

What is their secret desire?

Paisley has a minor case (or whatever the terminology is.I do know but I have forgotten) or Autism and that causes much frustration within for the poor girl. Her secret desire is to just be normal or treated as normal anyways. She sees her other ‘foster sisters’, who may not understand her much, and just wants to be like them because some part of her just knows that she’s not like them.

 

What is the best and brightest moment they experience during the story?

That in her foster family, she isn’t teased or given a hard time because she thinks or acts differently compared to everyone else (which really is something she can’t help at all)

 

What are the emotional places your characters are afraid to go to?

She’s always afraid of not even being able to understand herself. For some reason she has this issue where she can’t even understand herself and she hates that and it scares her. She hates being scared or feeling alone.

 

Is there a place/city/room where they will never go? Why?

Hospitals. She hates hospitals and will avoid them at all costs. The very short years in her life have been spent in the hospital two different times (because of suicide attempts) and also because as a young child (around 5 to 7 years old) she used to become extremely sick and would sometimes end up in the hospital for a night or two… She has bitter memories with hospitals and therefore hates them with a passion. Nothing you say or do will even get her to visit someone in the hospital.

 

If they were permanently leaving town, what would they easily throw out? What would they refuse to part with? (Why?)

All I know is that she would for sure bring her notebooks with her scribblings and poems and such with her. She found a love for it when she was 11 or 12 and now she uses it as a way to vent her frustration and confusion. Those notebooks could only be taken in the case that she was dead and not there to hide or protect them….okay that might have sounded morbid but she once used the term ‘Over my dead body’ when someone asked to see what she wrote…that is all I meant by that…

 

What do they want (consciously and tangibly)?

Well she is always in want/need of a new notebook or ten and she just wants to be normal.

 

On the other hand: what do they need (on the emotional, subconscious level)?

She feels the need to be treated as normal. Thats it. Its all she wants and all she needs.

 

If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?

Besides the whole wanting to be normal thing, she doesn’t like her nose. (Yes her nose.) She would totally trade it for a different one if she could because she thinks her nose is too pointy and looks like a witches nose. (I kid you not. Her nose is fine but she doesn’t seem to think so)

 

What is the most humiliating event of their life?

I actually don’t know what the most humiliating event of her life was to be honest…. I might have to figure that out…

 

What things do they turn to when they need a bit of hope?

Music and Poetry. Thats all the girl needs.

 

 

Okay, so maybe this was cheating in some way by doing all four characters in one post but I figured doing it all at once might be a little bit easier. As you can see these four characters are all such sad/broken characters….But I love them *hugs to my characters* and they may not love me but that is okay. 😛

Now this may make it seem like in the story the foster home these girls come to makes everything better but really, I’m just showing you the nice side…sure they come to treat each theory as family in the end but trust me when I tell you there will be much teen drama, arguing, fighting and frustration in this foster family. It will be quite interesting since there are a couple Drama Queen’s in the mix of these 4 teenage girls….but thats the fun part right?
